Anthem Insurance Breach
Last updated Feb. 9, 2015
Up to 80 million people have been involved in a serious data breach at Anthem insurance. This breach exposed all the data a criminal needs to steal a consumer's identity. To make things worse, now scam artists are swooping in and trying to take advantage of the fear and confusion to trick consumers into sharing personal data through emails and phone calls that appear to be from Anthem.
Anthem is NOT sending emails with a "click here" link for credit monitoring. If you get one of these emails, do not click on links or attachments, or reply to it.
Anthem is NOT calling customers and is not asking for credit card information or social security numbers over the phone. If you get a call like this, hang up immediately.
Anthem will contact current and former members via mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service with specific information on how to enroll in credit monitoring. Affected consumers will receive free credit monitoring and ID protection services.
