1. Go to http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp.

2. You may get a pop-up box that asks if you would like to install the latest version of the Microsoft Windows update software. If you are asked this, click on yes.

3. When the page loads or the software install has completed, click on Scan for updates. Windows will now search for any available security/Windows software updates that can be applied to your computer.

4. When Windows has finished searching for updates, it will display the total number of patches that can be applied to your computer. The updates we are concerned with are under critical updates and patches. Click the critical updates and patches link to display the critical updates that can be applied to your computer.

5. Please review the listed updates. In the case that you wish not to install a particular update, click the remove button next to the update you do not want to install. When you have completed reviewing the list, click on review and install updates at the top of the update list. This will take you to the total selected updates page.

6. Click on the install now button at the top of the total selected updates list.

7. A Microsoft end user license agreement (eula) will appear. Review the eula if you wish. Click yes, agree, or accept (depending on the update) to continue installing the updates. This will begin the download and install process.

*Please note - if you do not agree to the eula, no updates will be installed.

8. When Windows has completed installing the updates, a box telling you that updates have installed and/or that your computer needs to be rebooted to finish the install process will appear. If you are asked to reboot your computer, please do. After your computer reboots (if needed), the update process is complete.

*Please note - some Windows patches are exclusive and cannot be run with other patches. Depending on how many updates need to be installed on your computer, it may be nessary to run Windows update and repeat the the above process several times to completely update your computer.
