$25,000 Grant Awarded to Mia's Kitchen
Altra Federal Credit Union is proud to announce its partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago (FHLBank Chicago) to award a $25,000 Community First® Accelerate Grant to La Crosse area small business Mia’s Kitchen operated by Mia Davis.
Mia is a young entrepreneur in our area with a catering and pop-up business who desires to serve all in our community who need a warm home cooked meal. She would like to use the proceeds of the grant to purchase new equipment, hire staff, and serve more communities. She would also like to further her education in the culinary arts and agriculture so she can grow her own products. At any given time, Mia can be seen working with several area non-profits, catering their events, or providing free meals.
“We choose Mia as our recipient for this grant, as we felt she embodied the spirit of what the grant represented. She has the desire to do what it takes to grow herself and her business so that she can continue to give back to the community she lives in”, stated Mary Isaacs, Altra’s Chief Financial Officer.
Small businesses are facing challenges with growing or enhancing their operations due to surging borrowing costs in a high-interest rate environment. In response to this need, FHLBank Chicago awarded Accelerate Grants for a second year to support a variety of purposes, including the purchase or improvement of property, equipment, workforce development, and technology. FHLBank Chicago member banks, credit unions, insurance companies, and community development financial institutions submitted grant applications on behalf of eligible small businesses.
